Well, I suspect Spitzer's out to crack some skulls, just like he did on Wall Street. But will he get away with it? These Assemblymen can't be thrown in jail or run out of business. Spitzer has guts. He'll go down as either brilliant or insane. It will be fascinating to watch.

As to "can't we all just get along?" he may have concluded that it's impossible. Pataki tried to do that, while addressing serious issues, and they handed him his head.

As to being heavyhanded, many will support him. I love this blog comment: "I’m all for a tyranical dictator. The beauty of hitting rock bottom is that you have no where to go but up."

Hi there... you might remember me as the ranting Rochester political writer from days gone by.

During my few short months living in Minnesota - I've found a vastly different political atmosphere. Oh sure, the governor and the legislature battle from time to time. And, yes, there is some public posturing and finger pointing.

But then there <a href="http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/polinaut/archive/2007/02/you_disagree_wi.shtml" rel="nofollow">is this story</a>.

Could you imagine Spitzer and Silver bowling together? I thought not.

The poisonous dynamic in New York must be reversed - but my guess is that will happen only after some kind of political meltdown.

Happy trails from the North Star state.
